Alpine sub install

Postby needbass » Sun Dec 17, 2006 3:47 am

Hello all. I am new to this forum/chat room stuff. I will get to the point. I have a Sony-CDXM9900 receiver, Almani-P800.2 amp pushing Kicker 6x9 3-ways and Alpine R-Type 6.5 components. For bass I have a Alpine MRD-605 pushing 1 twelve inch Alpine 1242dvc subwoofer. I want to get rid of the sub and I already have 2 Alphasonic 10 inch DVC subs. How would I go about wiring these subs up to a single channel amp? Any feedback would be usefull.

How many ohms is each voice coil on your Alphasonik subwoofers?

From what I read the Alpine MRD-605 is stable down to 2 ohms. Hook the voice coils of each subwoofer in a series connection, this will give you 4 ohms. Now hook the two subwoofers in a parallel connection for a 2 ohm load. See the “Parallel / Series Diagrams” on the site’s main menu for how to accomplish this.

Now for my next question. How much air space does each sub require? My brother is building me a sealed enclosure. Thank you for your help.

I found your subwoofer on the manufacture’s website but it doesn’t list the enclose sizes. They also don’t offer manuals. Do you have the manual for these subwoofers?

I do not have any kind of manuals on these subwoofers. They were given to me. My brother gave me the subs and now he don't know what ohm the subs are. He first told me they were 2ohm and now he is saying he doesn't know. HELP ME PLEASE!!! Also I don't understand this "series/parallel" stuff. Thank you 4 your time.

You told me correctly the first time each voice coil is 2 ohm. You can use the advise above, hope that helps. As for air space, I am guessing the reason Alphasonik doesn’t list enclosure size is because it is extremely large. I would say use 2 to 4 cubic feet for each sub.
