Loud static noise coming from speakers

Postby Interlagos Fire » Thu Sep 28, 2006 12:15 pm

Hi Folk,
First post here, this is a great helpful site!
I have a 1990 Chevy Lumina with everything stock, including the radio and speakers. The first 30 seconds after I start the engine, with my radio on, a horrific static noise would generate from the speakers (I believe the rear speakers) regardless of the volume is turned down to minimum. It sounded like the speakers could blow any second, sometimes it gets so loud it hurts my ear, then the noise would stop after 30 seconds.
What could this be caused by? is it time for a new head unit? or may be a new antenna? :?:

Thanks :D

JC

Can you use the radio fine with the engine off? If you have a cassette deck does the noise happen while playing a tape?

PS
Thanks for the positive feedback!

hmm....that's a good question since I haven't done it before. But I will try the radio without the engine on and let you know. I don't think I can find any cassett tapes anymore, but yeah it's a cassett deck, not a CD deck.
